Debut Orchestra Concert

Farrington Gurney Memorial Hall was packed to the rafters on the evening of Saturday November 4th 2017 for the first concert given by ‘From The Top’ AllComers Orchestra. The lovely Village Voices Community Choir joined them in the charity event. The orchestra, led by Pat Dowling, began on January 5th this year with just nine players. They now number twenty-eight with a wide variety of instruments! The orchestra played pieces ranging from popular and jazz to folk songs and dances. The choir sang in a committed and sometimes humorous style to the obvious delight of the audience. Both groups performed ‘Tunes From the Trenches’ at the end as a Remembrance Day reflection. During the interval the audience enjoyed tea, coffee and wine with a delicious selection of cakes generously provided by the orchestra and choir members. A fabulous total of £780 was raised through audience generosity for Children’s Hospice South West and the Kanlungan Sa Er-Ma Philippines Orphanage.
